Pointe Shoe Fitting Guide

Although age is not necessarily a prerequisite, many ballet students do not begin to dance en pointe earlier than approximately 11-14 years of age because bones in the feet are often too soft prior to that age and, in such cases, serious and permanent foot injuries could result from starting pointe work too early.

Students need regular, rigorous training to prepare for pointe shoes with consistently taking 3-5 hours of ballet per week for a minimum of 2 years prior to pointe training.

A students physical dance ability, strength and maturity determines their readiness for pointe work.

Each student must get the style, shape and brand of pointe shoe that is best for their foot structure, no one shoe will work best for everyone.

Fitting rules:

* Toes must be able to lay perfectly flat.

* Must be able to stand/nearly stand on demi pointe.

* No pressure points of pain.

* Must be able to place weight onto the ends of the toe pads when en pointe, not on the nails.
